It was quite a headache choosing the name of the company. My partner, the diligent one, actually borrowed almost a dozen books on name choosing to read and take reference from. Few things that were advised by the experts on this, one, names that are dual-syllabic tend to be more impressionable and memorable. Second, try not to use abbreviations as they can mean anything which means you might end up as one of the ABC companies registered. Thirdly, if you intend to have a website, which i believe most companies in this modern age will, you got to keep in mind how you want the web address to be. For example, if OneTwoThree company wants to have their website address, it can be www.onetwothree.com or www.one-two-three.com etc...If the name of your company is made of a few words and you intend to link the words together to form one word followed by dot com, always bear in mind how the address will look with the words linked together. One of the books mentioned a very funny example. I can't remember the exact details but it was probably a stationary company which had the name Pen Island. Pretty innocent and cool name for such a business. However, when the company registered their domain name, WITH the 2 words joined up, needless to say, the website became a big joke and talking point! That made me realised, what sounds good by themselves got to look good also when linked.
That's one part of the story, the other part is actually getting THE name. It wasn't easy and alot depended on inspiration. I mean, it's not unique to have a name that is too specific to the nature of their business as that means almost everyone would have thought of it. Like naming a construction company ABC Construction or a piping company 123 Piping. However, the good to having such a name is that people who found your company surely knows what your company is doing without asking and when doing a web search based on keywords, it will be easier to get a hit. With this in mind, you got to weigh the pros and cons and decide.
The easy way out of going through the hassle of choosing a name for your company is to hire a consultant to do that. This service of course does not come cheap. So if you're a young entrepreneur like us without a huge budget, you can give this a miss. In the end, i got my "eureka!" moment while watching TV.
